POSTER PLANNING -
POSTER DRAFT
Below is the draft of our film poster. We drew up a draft to refer from. We can then refer from the drawn images, and take the necessary photos. The poster has to suit our genre (action/comedy), and portray the story line of the film, to allow audiences to have an idea of what the film is about. It is important to suit the images taken to our genre, if the images aren't related to the film, and do not address the film vividly, then the poster won't be of relevance.
FOREGROUND IMAGES
The drawn images to right are the two main characters in our film, Ben Dover & Umesh Muraleetharan. As these two are the main characters in the film, we are planning to use them as our dominant/main images in our film poster. The foreground image will be the part of the poster that is nearest to the observer. By making them the dominant images in our film poster, we would like to position them in the center of the poster. By positioning them in the center of the poster makes them the main attraction of our poster, and this is what we'd like to accomplish.
Therefore, we're planning on taking images of both characters in their casual wear to portray their ordinary lives, and also images of the characters dressed in their hoody's to portray their heroic lives they live when saving their local neighbourhood, by tackling the criminals that create big threat to the community.
ALTERATIONS & DEVELOPMENT
We decided to flip Umesh's face to make it meet with the right side of Ben's face, making both their heroic life style sides position in the center. We thought it look better this way, as the previous image was flipped the opposite way.

We then added a key action prop to the poster draft. I drew both characters holding a gun to suggest a tight bond and a strong friendship. It also adds a slight comical feeling to the poster. It additionally connotes that the characters are ready for action, therefore suiting out hybrid genre. I added a smoke effect at the top of the gun to suggest its been fired at a criminal they hunting down. The use of the gun makes the characters seem dominant and also shows that they feel adamant about saving their local neighbourhood, which therefore follows our story line of the film.

POSTER DRAFT
We drew up our draft of our poster. We like the idea of making the two main characters the foreground image, to connote that they're the dominant characters, and the main focus of the film. The split personailty design is much liked by our target audience and teacher, as it portrays both of the lives they are living in the film. Both personailties are costumed differently. The characters heroic lives are costumed in their coloured hoodies, Ben has a salmon hoodie, whereas Umesh has a blue hoodie to represent their characters. Additionally, we really like the idea of the poster being artistic, with the drawings having a pastel effect to them. As our film is an independent, British, amateur film, we feel the poster should represent this, and appear to create the same sort of amateur filming as our trailer. However, we are planning on using an uplifting font to create a joyful mood to the poster, and to create a slightly more professional look to the poster. We added a salmon and blue border around the poster, to surround the content in the poster. This creates a neat design to the poster, and makes it appear more professional. |
MAGAZINE PLANNING
- ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
We have deciced to use the Entertainment Weekly magazine to promote our film. This is becasue the magazine covers film and concentrates on entertainment media news and critical reviews, therefore would be a good magazine for The Rogue Busters as it is a film, and can be reviewed in the Magazine. Additionally, Entertainment Weekly is an American Magazine, and as our film is joint produced with Universal, and American Film Production, an American magazine can help promote our film. It can widen the audience for our film, selling the film to loads more audiences. Therefore, we have considered the Idents of our film, and the media industry.
As we have now decided upon a magazine, we can now go ahead and produce the draft of our magazine, including the masterhead, and all the other elements, such as covelines, puff, selling line, barcode, etc.

- MAIN IMAGE IDEA
This is pre photo planning. We wanted to test out photos for our magazine cover. I took this photo of Ben and Umesh, with their backs to the readers, and looking downwards. We liked this idea as if portrayed the genre action, the use of the gun in Ben's hand helped portray this too. We are thinking about making this the main image for our film magazine cover, and positioning in the center, surrounded by coverlines and many other elements of a magazine. This isn't a defiant decision, but we like the idea of using this for our actual magazine. We was also thinking about taking a photo of the actors instead of the characters in our film. This is a very different approach, but it is a common thing down in the Entertainment Weekly magazine, which is magazine we're pretty sure of using to promote our film.
Anisha Sehmi - "I really like this photo, it portrays the action genre of your film. However, the image seems to make the characters seem gangsta, which i'm not sure was what you was aiming for. Also a comical approach may be a better chose".

MAGAZINE DRAFT
I drew up a draft for our film magazine. Our research on film magazines helped us a lot when drawing up a draft, as we then knew what the main codes and conventions were for a film magazine. From the research, we realised that a masterhead was extremely important, also many coverlines were used in magazines, to illustrate the film, and many other media articles. A barcode however wasn't always used on film magazines, but we have decided to include a barcode in our magazine to show that we understand the main elements of a magazine.
We decided to use the magazine 'Entertainment Weekly' to promote our film. We are hoping to stylise to font for the masterhead to suit our films genre. Additionally, we want to add a puff to help promote our film, and to hand out our film poster to potential readers. I also added a top 10 funniest actors tab at the top of the poster, as it links with the comedy aspect of our film. The coverline below the main coverline illustrates the films background, and attracts readers to read the magazine, and most importantly purchase it for further reading. I added two additional coverlines to the right of the magazine, these coverlines will not be related to the film, instead will hint about other articles mentioned in the magazine. This is very common in film magazines, as from our research, this is what we found. |
